When tinting your vehicle in Louisiana, it’s important to stay aware of the state’s updated window tint regulations. As of August 1, 2025, Louisiana law (Act 143) states the front side windows must allow at least 25% of visible light transmission (VLT). The same 25% VLT requirement applies to rear side windows, while the rear window may be tinted to 12% VLT or darker. Windshields are permitted to have a non-reflective tint strip above the manufacturer’s AS-1 line only.
Reflectivity rules still apply, meaning window tint must remain non-reflective and free of mirrored or metallic finishes that could create excessive glare or reduce visibility for other drivers. Vehicles with tinted rear glass are required to have dual side mirrors for safe operation. Louisiana also allows medical exemptions for darker tint levels when supported by proper documentation from a licensed physician.
